Pregnancy
There is not enough data about the teratogênese of promethazine in animals. No effects were observed fetotóxicos or malformations in newborns of mothers who received the product in a small number of women, up to the moment. However it would require additional studies to assess the consequences of administration of promethazine during pregnancy. The newborn babies of mothers treated with high doses of antihistamines anticholinergics such as promethazine, have been reported rarely signs digestive linked to the properties atropínicas phenothiazine (abdominal distension, ileus paralytic, delay in the elimination of meconium, feeding difficulty, tachycardia, neurological effects, etc.). Therefore, during pregnancy FENERGAN should only be used only under medical guidance, evaluating always the risk-benefit ratio. A slight increase in the risk of malformations cardiovascular has been put in evidence in the human species. As a result, it is recommended not to be used during the first three months of pregnancy. At the end of the pregnancy, in cases of treatment-breastfeeding is prolonged, there is a possibility that occur drowsiness or hyperexcitability in the neonate. Gastric lavage should be done as early as possible. Only in extreme cases it becomes necessary monitoring of vital signs. Naloxone reverses some of the depressive effects, but not all.
